Between 8 March and 7 April 2019 Gozo will be abounding with various cultural events as part of the 13th edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music. Musically kicking off with a symphonic concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at the Gozo Cathedral on Saturday 9th March, the festival presents a very rich programme of events which includes not only concerts of different genres and styles but also the exhibitions, a film screening and discussions. A number of concerts featuring Italian artists are in programme, thanks to the usual collaboration of the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute.

The Festival concludes with the OPERA+ Weekend (5-7 April), three days of events highlighted by the production of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the Teatru Aurora in Gozo, starring Miriam Gauci – Gaulitana’s Honorary Patron – in the title role. Manon Lescaut will be presented after an absence of 40 years from the Gozitan operatic stage and is directed by Enrico Castiglione.

This year’s edition of the festival will focus on the theme of “Women in Society” to draw attention of the fundamental role of women in arts and culture.

To further celebrate this theme Gaulitana Festival and the Italian Cultural Institute proudly present an exclusive event in Malta – a meeting with Soprano Miriam Gauci, who will be returning to Gaulitana to perform the title-role in Puccini’s opera after interpreting Madama Butterfly in 2017.

On 18 March, at 19:30, at the Italian Cultural Institute for this occasion opera connoisseur Joseph Ellis will interview Miriam Gauci about her artistic life, career focal points and of course her forthcoming much-awaited participation in Manon Lescaut. Students from the Malta School of Music will be participating with their own questions in the event as well. The public will also have the unique opportunity to question the artist about her broad experience in the local and international opera scene.

The event is free admission, however reservation is required by sending an email on the following address:
