Gaulitana: A Festival of Music presents Verdi’s Nabucco, the ever-popular oeuvre acknowledged by the composer himself as “the true beginning of my artistic career”.
After an absence of 10 years, opera buffs are invited to immerse themselves in a dramatic journey rich in grand choruses and gorgeous melodies intertwining politics and religion undertones, immortalised in Va’ Pensiero, sull’ali dorate.
Based on the biblical books of 2 Kings, Jeremiah, Lamentations, and Daniel, and on the 1836 play by Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois and Francis Cornu, Nabucco, (originally Nabucodonosor) is considered as the opera to have permanently established Verdi’s reputation as a composer.
Following on the successful La Bohème in 2024, defined as “un colpo di fulmine” by OperaClick, this full-scale production features an international cast with the Gaulitanus Choir and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Colin Attard.
Nabucco shall be held on Saturday 3 May at Teatru tal-Opra Aurora at 19:30 highlighting the 18th edition of the festival presenting a multifarious programme of events around Gozo.
Gaulitana: A Festival of Music, organised by the Gaulitanus Choir, is principally supported by the Investment in Cultural Organisations – Gozo of Arts Council Malta and the Ministry for Gozo & Planning.
