Every year, the first-year students of the BA (Hons) in Performing Arts present a text-based production as part of their programme of studies.
This year, this Institute was involved in the production of 4/6 New Italian Plays in the World, as we offered the students the opportunity of staging plays by a new generation of Italian playwrights selected for the project New Italian Plays in the World.
Curated by Riccione Teatro in collaboration with Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the project is meant to present the evolution of theatre writing in a generation of young authors and dramatists who have had the opportunity to encounter a vast array of theatrical writings, from European plays – thanks to a series of dedicated initiatives – to texts by previous generations of authors.
The four texts selected for staging by MCAST students are Imprimatur by Alessandro Paschitto, Philomela by Fulvia Cipollari, Red Carpet by Giulia Trivero, and Intense by Denise Diaz.
Under the direction of Dr. Victor Jacono and with the dramaturgy of Ms. Erica Muscat, the plays will be performed by the first-year students of both the BA (Hons) Degree and the Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts at ICA.
The event will be held at the MCAST Paola Administration Hall on Friday, 20th and Saturday, 21st June, at 19:30.
The plays (rated 16+) will be performed in English and Maltese.
Nuova scena italiana nel mondo è un importante progetto di promozione della drammaturgia italiana, lanciato dall’associazione Riccione Teatro e ideato con il Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale. Un’iniziativa che, attraverso l’azione della rete culturale della Farnesina, presenta all’estero sei drammaturghi under 35 che negli anni scorsi si sono messi in evidenza proprio grazie al Premio Riccione, alla scuola di drammaturgia Scritture (promossa da Riccione Teatro insieme ad altre importanti istituzioni teatrali e diretta da Lucia Calamaro) e alla scuola di ERT – Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione. A ciascuno di questi talenti – Fulvia Cipollari, Denise Diaz, Jacopo Giacomoni, Alessandro Paschitto, Eliana Rotella e Giulia Trivero – è stato commissionato un breve testo teatrale sul tema Connessioni/Relazioni, secondo formato del corto.
Il progetto – a cura di Simone Bruscia (direttore artistico di Riccione Teatro) e Graziano Graziani (giurato del Premio Riccione, critico teatrale e conduttore di Fahrenheit su Radio 3) – ha iniziato il suo tour internazionale nel 2023 ed è stato già accolto anche da numerosi Istituti Italiani di Cultura tra cui Stoccarda, Lione, Atene e Oslo.
