Novecento is a theatrical monologue by Alessandro Baricco (already a cinematic success with the namesake masterpiece by Giuseppe Tornatore, The Legend of Novecento starring Tim Roth) that tells the story of an extraordinary pianist born and raised on an ocean liner, the Virginian.

Novecento, the protagonist, never sets foot on land and spends his entire life at sea, playing the piano and captivating the passengers with his music. Through the eyes of a close friend, the monologue explores themes of freedom, identity, and the boundaries between reality and imagination. It’s a poetic and moving journey into the life of a man who chose to live in the limitless space of the ocean, finding his world and his music amidst the waves.

The play will be staged in Italian with English and Maltese surtitles and will coincide with the publication of first Maltese language edition of Baricco’s Novecento.

The producers of this show, Costantino Films, wish to create a bridge between Italian and Maltese excellence for the production of cultural events aimed not only at professional exchange but also at enriching and raising awareness on important social issues.
