Supported by the Italian Cultural Institute, Gaulitana: A Festival of Music celebrates Verdi on his 125th death anniversary with one of his artistic masterpieces, Il Trovatore.
Stretching the dramatic possibilities of the plot to its extreme, the over-arching themes of love, revenge and mistaken identity connect the oeuvre in a musical feast of melodies and vocal fireworks. Marking a pinnacle in Verdi’s creativity, the work was composed with Rigoletto and La Traviata over a 3-year period, and since its acclaimed premiere “began a victorious march throughout the operatic world”.
Following on the Nabucco to remember in 2025, this full-scale production features an international cast with the Gaulitanus Choir and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Colin Attard.
Il Trovatore shall be held on Saturday 25 April at Teatru tal-Opra Aurora at 19:30 highlighting the 19th edition of the festival presenting a multifarious programme of events around Gozo as part of the OPERA+ Weekend, a 3-day cultural bonanza of quality events intrinsically linked with an operatic production.
Shuttle service provided by Gaulitana: pre-booking is required
The service shall run from the Mġarr Ferry Terminal to Teatru tal-Opra Aurora following the arrival of the 18:15 ferry with the return leg departing at the end of the opera from in front of the theatre.
IL TROVATORE 2026 is being supported by Arts Council Malta in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo through the Investment in Cultural Organisations Gozo programme.
