ALTOFEST MALTA (13 aprile – 13 maggio 2018)

‘Legendary People’ is the theme inspiring the events to be held in 11 towns and villages between 13 April and 13 May as part of Altofest Malta, in the frame of Valletta 2018 Cultural Programme.

Residents host international artists in their houses, which then become venues that welcome audiences for diverse performances. These artistic creations breakthrough the households’ daily life, giving rise to the poetic part of the existence, going beyond the boundaries of the usual way of conceiving the performing arts.

Altofest inaugurates a dialogue on the profound sense of hospitality, originating a new hybrid experience, this triggers the process of human regeneration that is one of the fundamental aims of Altofest.

Altofest Malta is a community-based project that explores experimental sociality through contemporary live art. The “Legendary People” we are referring to are those citizens who influence customs and traditions of their people inaugurating new rituals and practices, bringing innovation and giving birth to a new community, celebrating together the sense of beauty in daily life. These residents involved in the project are pioneers of an experience that will leave a cultural legacy, welcoming the possibility that something special it’s going to happen.

Altofest events will take place in four regions over four consecutive weekends. The programme includes over 20 international artists, from Italy, Switzerland, UK, Germany, Spain, Malaysia and Maltese artists, with 22 performances in 11 different cities: Rabat, Manikata, Qormi, Ħamrun, Sta Venera, Żejtun, Bormla, Birgu, Sliema, Gżira and Valletta. All events are free of charge but booking is mandatory.
