“Restauro del legno: la scatola armonica dell’organo e altre opere lignee”

Within the Magic Box

Yes we’re back after the summer break, the Magic Box!

But this time it’s the third Tuesday of the month, because of 8th September celebration. We start again after the summer break and continuing the programme, Dott. Porcheddu is delighted to present Joseph Aquilina and Wood restoration: organ sound-boxes and other wood works.

We give a warm welcome to Joseph Aquilina, wood restorer and conservator. He has graduated in Wood Restoration in the city of Piacenza, Italy: ‘Restauro di opera d’arte a supporto ligneo’ and has specialized both in Norway and in Malta with a Master of Philosophy degree at the University of Malta as a discipline in his rational approach to restoration. Among his works are an 18th century architectural wardrobe ascribed to Romano Carapecchia in the sacristy of St. Paul’s Shipwreck church in Valletta, a 16th century ceiling (known as Paladini room) in the previous chapel of the Grandmaster’s Palace at the time of Verdalle, a panel painting in the same chapel, a 17th century wooden crucifix in a private collection, a 17th century ceiling in ‘Dar L-Ewropa’ Valletta, a Sicilian 16th century (c.1570) organ sound-box  in the Oratory of St John’s Co-Cathedral and a Sicilian 18th century corner cabinet in a private collection.

This evening he will talk about the ins and outs of wood restoration.

We look forward to having you, so that we can join together in this new cultural adventure. Our guest will be happy to answer all your questions over… a glass of wine.

Everyone is welcome and entrance is free.
