“Nuovomondo”

A movie by Emanuele Crialese (Italy, 2006 – 114 min.)

With Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vincenzo Amato, Francesco Casisa

Professor Gloria Lauri-Lucente (Faculty of Arts, University of Malta) will introduce “Nuovomondo”, an Italian movie that won the Leone d’argento in Venice and that represented Italy in 2007 Oscar. It is both a lesson of cine and life at the same time. The movie is set in Sicily at the beginning of Twentieth Century. Mancuso family decides to go to America in search of money and a new life. Immigration is the main topic of the movie. This is also the reason why a hundred years ago our compatriots, especially the ones from the South, left everything to go to the USA – the new world- searching for luck.
