a lecture by Professor Luigi Tassoni
On the occasion of the IV centenary of the birth of Mattia Preti.
The lecture will provide several key indications to better understand the innovative factors in Mattia Preti’s style. It will also focus on Preti’s historical background analyzing his relationship with other artists like Veronese, Caravaggio, Pietro da Cortona and Guercino. The lecture will be an interesting introduction to the visit of the exhibition “Mattia Preti – Faith and Humanity”, on display at Grand Master’s Palace since May 3, 2013. Luigi Tassoni is a critic and a semiologist, and also the Director of the Romanistica Department at Pécs University. He is a member of the Hungarian Science Academy. He wrote two books focused on Mattia Preti and he contributed to several different essays about Preti that were published around Europe.
