“La Scatola Magica” with Dott. Anna Porcheddu, at the Italian Cultural Institute
“La storia del vino italiano” with Giuseppe Scalia and Emanuela Caire – Enocult Malta
This month Magic Box presents an interesting topic: wine. With a wine history dating back more than 4,000 years ago, and just the right climate for wine production, Italy certainly is the perfect country when we talk about wine. As a matter of fact, wine was already present in Italy long before the Greeks arrived. Etruscans and Romans followed this beautiful tradition of winemaking cultivating such a keen interest that nowadays each single region in Italian has great wines to offer. Giacomo Contrafatto and Alessandro Aliotta, directors of Enocult Malta, have kindly invited Giuseppe Scalia (San Domenico Vini Winery, Sicily) and Emanuela Caire (Tenuta La Fiammenga Winery, Piedmont) to join us this evening.
Giacomo and Alessandro are both from Sicily, and have been friends for forty years. Giacomo had already created Enocult in Germany, but thinking of his Mediterranean roots, he thought of having an Enocult group even in Malta. He contacted Alessandro and, in 2017, Enocult Malta was born. This firm imports high quality Italian wines to Malta introducing the Maltese to new flavours coming from different parts of Italy.
Giuseppe and Emanuela will talk about the history of wine in Italy and winemaking in their own firms and regions. They will also answer all our questions before concluding the evening over a glass of wine provided by Enocult, and some delicious treats, provided by two restaurants, Sottovento, in Birgu and Anthony’s, in Paceville.
Everybody is welcome and entrance is free.
