“La Scatola Magica” with Dott. Anna Porcheddu, at the Italian Cultural Institute
“”Di tonni e tonnare. Tra Sicilia e Malta”” with Gaetano Malandrino
This month our guest, Gaetano Malandrino, architect, lecturer of History of Art in Florence and writer, will talk about tuna fish, but also about the hard life of Sicilian and Maltese fishermen. This superb fish, loved for its delicious meat, flees along the coast of the Mediterranean from the eternal struggle with the Rais, the terrazzani. °In the short span of a few years, the last “tonnaroti” of eastern Sicily are disappearing and with them stories, songs, handicrafts; the same tonnara of the Syracusan type will soon constitute a silent testimony of some ethno-anthropological museum°. That’s why Gaetano wants to share all he knows about this very interesting topic with us. He will also show us beautiful pictures with coves and hidden bays, and will present songs and recipes that we may even try to reproduce.
Gaetano is originally from Noto, Sicily, but he has been coming to Malta for many years and by now he considers it a second homeland. He appreciates Maltese art, the hard work and conviviality of its people.
At the end of his presentation Gaetano will answer all our questions before concluding the evening over a glass of wine and some treats.
Everybody is welcome and entrance is free!
