“La lingua italiana sulla frontiera. Italiano, ponte tra le culture nel Mediterraneo”

A meeting-debate with Dott. Loredana Cornero with the participation of Prof. Joseph Eynaud and Prof. Joseph Brincat

Through a picture of the current situation of the Italian language in the Mediterranean, questions like, for example what is the meaning of studying Italian nowadays and what value does it add, might arise. Is Italian rising in popularity, is it surviving because of its cultural implications or is it a professional requirement? Does Italian maintain its traditional position as a language of culture and as a common language in times of political and economical crises in the Mediterranean?

This meeting is aimed at promoting knowledge, and not only within the academic community, of the themes and results of the seminar bearing the same name that took place in December 2014 on the RAI premises in Rome. This seminar was the conclusion of another two meetings on the topic “Italian language at the borders” which took place in Switzerland and Croatia.

Loredana Cornero is General Secretary of the Comunita’ Radiotelevisiva Italofona founded in 1985 by RAI, working at the Head Office International Relations. She wrote many academic essays on the Italian language, has a particular interest in l’italiano degli altri and has edited various publications on the Italian language and culture in the world. She is President of the gender equality commission COPEAM and wrote a number of essays on the social role of media and the representation of women on television programmes.
