Presentation of the book by the author Maurizio Fantoni Minnella
In his book Genova. Ritratto di una città, Fantoni Minnella uses history as a basis to illustrate the evolution of Genoa from a city of bourgeoisie to a city with fascist characteristics and taking into consideration the metamorphosis of the harbour by Renzo Piano.
The book highlights the changes from the proletariat district of Ponente to the aristocratic one of Levante, moving on to the Genova dei viaggiatori, a fundamental stage of the Grand tour, finally reaching the romantic city acclaimed by Byron and Genova dei poeti: scapigliati, simbolisti, futuristi…. who are joined, eventually, by Fabrizio de Andre’, the singer-songwriter par excellence. A picture of Genoa emerges also through Don Andrea Gallo’s experience of life in the streets.
Maurizio Fantoni Minnella is a writer, traveller, journalist, film essayist and documentarian. Minnella presented his books and some of his essays on Italian cinema in many important European cities, in Latin America and Middle East.
