The Gaulitanus Choir is proud to announce the 8th edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music. The festival will be spanning nearly 2 months, starting on the 21st of March and ending on the 10th of May. As usual, it will include various concerts displaying a pot-pourri of styles by an international list of performers around different venues.
The Gaulitanus Choir itself will feature prominently in two events. The choir will be participating in the festival’s concluding sacred concert where 2 masses by local composers will be performed. Messa Papa Giovanni XXIII written by Joseph Vella and Missa Brevis In Honorem Johannis Pauli II written by the choir’s director ColinAttard will be paired together in a concert commemorating the looming canonization of these two popes.
The choir will also be participating in the highlight of this year’s Gaulitana: the operatic production Tosca, certainly the biggest project embarked so far in the festival. This full-scale opera, held in collaboration with Taormina Festival, will be staged at the Teatru tal-Opra Aurora on the 12th of April, 2014. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be under the direction of Colin Attard whereasthe production will be in the hands of acclaimed Italian director Enrico Castiglione. Three top-notch Italian singers will head the cast: Norma Fantini (Tosca), Piero Giuliacci (Cavaradossi) and Francesco Landolfi (Scarpia). Tosca will be the only event in the festival against payment and one can book by emailing info@gaulitanus.com, by phoning 99209779/99248963, online at http://teatruaurora.com/ or by calling at the Aurora Box Office.
