“Dal Cibo nell’Arte all’Arte del Cibo”

WITHIN THE SECOND EDITION OF THE SETTIMANA DELLA CUCINA ITALIANA NEL MONDO

A virtual presentation, by Davide Dotti and Giuseppe Masserdotti, of the exhibition Il Cibo nell’Arte dal Seicento a Warhol which took place at Palazzo Martinengo in 2015.

The presentation of the exhibition will take the audience on a journey to discover the depiction of food during different historical periods through antique, as well as modern and contemporary art. Market scenes with fish, meat, fruit and vegetables, pantries full of rich delicacies, well laden tables and kitchen scenes featuring cooks are some of the themes depicted with flair and originality by artists of all times.

This exhibition illustrates the marriage between artistic heritage and gastronomic traditions while focusing on the link between art, food and territory.

During the screening of the paintings, the curator of the exhibition, Davide Dotti will reveal how painters, active during the last four centuries, have portrayed the theme of food by including on canvas typical food according to the principles of the artistic movement they belonged to.

Giuseppe Masserdotti, a delegate from Brescia to the Accademia Italiana della Cucina will show the audience the passage of food in art to the art in food, through a careful observation of the paintings. That very same food that forms the backbone of Italian gastronomy and which is also the distinguishing characteristic of our national identity may often change its shape but it never changes its heart.
