The meeting will bring together more than 90 experts and researchers in various fields, such as geology, geohazards, civil engineering and civil protection. The participants hailing from various countries and institutions will discuss theories, methodologies and case studies for understanding, modelling, forecasting and mitigating the effects of perilous natural disasters and their impact on society.
The conference themes will focus on:
Geology and active tectonics of the Central Mediterranean
Geohazards – earthquake, tsunami, landslides, coastal erosion
Hazard assessment
Geophysical investigations and engineering seismology
Seismic vulnerability of buildings from isolated buildings to urban scale
Science, society and Civil Protection.
The Seminar is organized by the University of Malta, under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy and with the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute, within the context of the Project SIMIT – Integrated Civil Protection System for the Italo-Maltese Cross-Border Area, cofinanced by the Italia-Malta Programme-cohesion Policy 2007-2013
