OCIM was established in 2015 on the occasion of the Christmas Concert organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Malta. All the musicians are members of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra who, through the universal language of music, aim at contributing to the already strong cultural ties between Italy and Malta.
The ensemble is mainly formed by Italian musicians and includes performers from Hungary and Poland. Their repertoire is very versatile, ranging from baroque to contemporary music.
The musicians have considerable experience both as soloists and as orchestral players, working with prestigious orchestras, including the Orchestra Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia di Roma, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta de Extremadura in Spain, Hungarian State Opera, Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra of Japan, Limburgs Symfonie Orkest of Maastricht, Het Residentie Orkest of The Hague, Orchestra Haydn, Orchestra Sinfonica Arturo Toscanini, Orchestra Mozart di Bologna Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, International Mahler Orchestra and the Bayreuth Festival Philharmonic, amongst others. All its members hold diplomas from the most prestigious institutions in Europe.
They have also taken part in long-standing festivals such as ‘Bir Miftuh International Music Festival’ and the ‘Victoria International Arts Festival’ of Gozo.
