Roberto Badoglio
“No doubt, Badoglio possesses a broad arsenal, and transmits a lyrical musical persona amid the hyper-mode, single note licks and complex, jazz guitar-like chord voicings. Moreover, the bassist’s supersonic bass riffs are a wonder to behold, he’s a formidable player who communicates warmth, sensitivity and an enviable technique.” Glenn Astarita, ALL ABOUT JAZZ.
Considered as one of the most interesting and innovative bass players of the young generation and ex pupil of bass gurus Matthew Garrison and Dominique Di Piazza, Roberto started soon to gain attention in Italy after winning for 2 years in a row the “Italian Bass Contest” in 2002 and 2003 and becoming a finalist of the “European Bass Contest” in 2004, together with french bassist Hadrien Feraud.
In the year 2005 he moved to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music where he also joined the ensemble of the famous pianist Joanne Brackeen and formed the Jazz-Fusion band Oddflow together with Hara Garacci and Louis Cato. Oddflow released the album “Almost Even” the following year and started performing all around the east coast. In 2007 he moved to New York and lived there till 2010, playing in the local Jazz scene and touring all around the world with avant-garde pop singer Adama.
During this period he also started a long term musical collaboration with well known Fusion keyboardist and producer Steve Hunt (Allan Holdsworth, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham) which led to Roberto´s first solo album “Re-Evaluation Time”, published in 2010 under Steve´s record label “Spice Rack” and featuring Marty Richards and Pablo De Biasi on drums. Re-Evaluation Time gained worldwide recognition, being top seller on the Jazz-Fusion online shop “Abstract Logix” it also entered the “top five” in many jazz-oriented music radio charts. Nadine Axisa
Nadine is an established local singer and has been contributing to the local music scene since the age of 15. In 2003, Nadine ventured into the American standards and jazz scene. Her first project that same year was with local musicians where she contributed to the very successful concert and CD launch of “The Beatles Works” interpreting in an acclaimed manner, songs by the famous fab four, arranged in a jazzy style. Here she worked with local jazz musicians namely Vinny Vella Jnr, Walter Vella, Noel Grech and Mario Cocker Aquilina.
Nadine received vocal training in classical music under the tuition of Irene Dillon and later with Beatrice Brogdorff. She also sat for vocal exams with the Royal Schools of Music. In 2007 Nadine followed a jazz vocal course in Italy hosted by the Global Music Foundation. Amongst the tutors of the course were jazz singers Tina May and Iain Mackenzie, and Guillermo Rozenthuler, Argentinean singer, guitarist and composer. Breathing technique, repertoire, improvisation and working with a rhythm section were some of the themes tackled in the course. Basic principles of phrasing and expression, “impro-scat” and interpretation of Brazilian/South American songs were also covered. It was a very pleasant experience for Nadine, which most of all encouraged her in being more adventurous in interpreting jazz standards, especially latin jazz numbers which remain her all-time favourite.
Nadine performs regularly in top local venues and clubs with various musicians. Her performances outside the Maltese Islands include London, Tripoli, Prague, Oslo, Rome, Poland and Australia.
Nadine has contributed to a number of jazz concerts/events with various musicians.
