Cantico delle Creature: i francescani a Malta

with Dott. Anna Porcheddu at the Italian Cultural Institute

The Magic Box

It’s the second Tuesday of the month, it’s 6.30 pm, so it must be “The Magic Box” at the Italian Cultural Institute, an appointment you can’t miss! With her ongoing programme, Dr Porcheddu is delighted to present the topic of April: “Cantico delle Creature: the Franciscans in Malta”.

This month we give a warm welcome to Fr Norbert Ellul-Vincenti, O.F.M. a very well-known figure in Malta. He belongs to the Community at the Franciscan friary of Saint Mary of Jesus, simply called Ta’ Ġieżu by the Maltese. In Ta’ Ġieżu Church  one can find the beautiful statues that can be admired during the Good Friday procession in Valletta. Fr Norbert has studied philosophy and theology in Malta and in the UK; he loves art, and tries his hand at painting. He often writes literary and drama reviews for two of the local newspapers, The Times and The Independent.

In his presentation he will talk of Saint Francis, but from a very special point of view, through the Saint’s “ Cantico delle Creature”, showing us St Francis as a poet, a lover of music and nature, very close to God and all His creatures, men and women, in a relationship based on courtesy, kindness, nobility of manners.

It is an informal evening, so questions are welcomed. Afterwards, as always, we can chat over a glass of wine and a little something. All are welcome and entrance is free, so come early to ensure a seat.
