Una rilettura in occasione del V Centenario della nascita di S. Teresa d’Avila.
Lecture by Professor Denis de Lucca, Theresa Vella, Sante Guido and Giuseppe Mantella
In the 17th Century Cardinal Federico Cornaro commissioned Gian Lorenzo Bernini to build the Cornaro Chapel in the Roman Church of S. Maria della Vittoria. The Chapel can be considered as one of the finest examples of the new and revolutionary aspects of baroque art: that is the theatricality of the scene with the aim to evoke astonishment and awe aside from religious and devotional feelings.
The Chapel is known for the famous sculpture Estasi di Santa Teresa which is found in the central niche. The sculpture is considered as Bernini’s masterpiece, and is the height of Roman Baroque Art.
A vin d’honneur will be served following the lecture.
