Io, Michelagniolo schultore

Series of lectures on Italian art by Fr. Marius Zerafa

The date: 26 October 1521.  Followed by: Io, Michelagniolo schultore….”

These are the first words of an autograph letter by Michelangelo Buonarroti, a letter which is extremely important to the history of art  as it concerns payment for a famous sculpture, the Cristo risorto, which is found in Rome in the church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.  Starting with the relationship between artists and the ones who commissioned their works during the Italian Renaissance, as witnessed by the letter of the great Maestro, Marius Zerafa will reveal the artistic genius of Michelangelo who embraced all fields of artistic expression, starting with sculpture.
