by Sante Guido and Giuseppe Mantella
The book Mattia Preti 1613-2013. I Capolavori nelle Chiese di Malta, written by Sante Guido and Giuseppe Mantella, with beautiful accompanying photos by Enrico Formica (Miranda Books – Malta) encompasses the fruit of almost a decade of research, analysis and focused scientific investigations as well as the restoration of some of the most important paintings by the Baroque artist. Due to its scientific rigour it will be a source of reference for successive studies of the works of this great Italian Master.
Also thanks to a critical re-reading of documents, some already known and others still unknown, the authors could definitively re-assign a date to some of his most significant works. These have been analyzed and illustrated in the architectural context in which they have been carried out and in the knowledge that the composition and the depiction portrayed had been perfectly fine-tuned by the Master and expressed in a holistic vision of intent, communication and expression.
