Art and Technology in the activity of the Superior Institute for Conservation and Restoration
The exhibition shows the way conservation activity of cultural heritage is developed in Italy, with a special focus on the role of the Restoration Central Institute (ICR) (today knows as the Superior Institute for Conservation and Restoration) from its establishment in 1939. It explains the methodology of the institute, that was developed following the model of Cesare Brandi, who was the first Director of the Institute, and it also points out how modern the approach to restoration is. Several important restorers studied at the Superior Institute and they are nowadays capable of facing complex restoration problems of different nature. The ISCR also leads several different projects in China, Argentina, Egypt, Iraq, Portugal, Germany, India, Afghanistan, Malta and Kosovo.
