Lecture and projections edited by Alessandro Furlan (Altair4Multimedia), in the context of the European Researches’ Night 2014
3D visualization tools to stimulate knowledge and awareness of the common archaeological heritage
The European Researchers’ Night, promoted by the European Commission, is an initiative which takes place each year simultaneously in all Europe on the last Friday of September. In 2014, events for scientific divulgation will take place on the 26th September, in about 300 cities found in the European nations and neighboring countries.
The Italian Cultural Institute wished to join the events organized in the city of Valletta by proposing an activity of scientific divulgation and learning while having fun. The event promises to be an evening where virtual reality, science, technology, archaeology, art and history will not only come together but will also come up against each other, recreating in 3D the Imperial Rome of the period of Augustus, with the Roman Forum and the Ara Pacis, Nero’s Domus Aurea, the Stadium of Domitian and the ancient port of the Empire’s capital, that is the harbour of Traiano and the town of Ostia, till the life (and death) of Pompei, the timeless myth.
Alessandro Furlan, founder of ALTAIR4 Multimedia, works with his collaborators in what can be described as a true renaissance workshop, where different technologic and artistic disciplines of the applied arts of computer graphics and television co-exist in an ongoing dialogue, finding in the multimedia tool an innovative and more organic method of communication which leads to the processing of new terminology of “Synthesis”.
The creative team of Altair4 Multimedia has produced, since its inception in 1995, more than 100 interactive projects which generally form part of the artistic and cultural fields. The principal aim of these projects, which range over various fields of knowledge, from archaeology to the environment, from architecture to cinema, is not only that of an educational and informative nature, but also to act as a documentary and point of reference. Altair4 Multimedia works for European museums and international cultural institutes, from the Louvre to the British Museum to all museums in Rome, for various Universities around the world and also for television productions (National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Fr2, FR3 and various German, Japanese and Italian channels). Altair4 participates, with its productions, in all the major national and international festivals and awards, whether these are of an informative or of a technological and scientific nature dedicated to computer graphics, multimedia, electronic publishing and audiovisuals. Throughout the years they have been awarded some of the most prestigious achievements in various fields, from archaeology to multimedia, to history and the sciences.
