Lecture by Sante Guido and Giuseppe Mantella
A run through of the exchanges between Italian artists in Malta and Maltese artists in Italy. Examples will cover Sicilian paintings of the fifteenth century to the artists of the twentieth century, such as Antonio Sciortino. Emphasis will be made on Melchiorre Cafa’, especially in the light of a newly discovered work by this artist in Rome.
A unique opportunity to listen to a pleasant lecture on history of Italian and Maltese art by two renowned restorers, Sante Guido and Giuseppe Mantella, main authors of the history of Italian restoration in Malta, starting from the fascinating Chapel of Italy in St. John’s Co-Cathedral to many other works of art by Mattia Preti.
The initiative is being held in the context of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Din l-Art Ħelwa, who have organized this event in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Italy and Malta and the semester of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
