“Improperia per il venerdi’ santo”

A concert of baroque music by Ghislieri Choir & Consort organized in collaboration with Teatru Manoel

The Ghislieri Choir&Consort is reviving the Improperia, a relatively unknown, interesting and fascinating composition by the Maltese composer of the eighteenth century Benigno Zerafa. Zerafa’s work is characterized by clear Neapolitan influences and other composers of the likes of Durante, Leo and Pergolesi.

Ghislieri Choir&Consort is a baroque ensemble resident at Collegio Ghislieri di Pavia and is conducted by Maestro Giulio Prandi. The ensemble boasts of some of the best Italian baroque singers and musicians and is currently working on the rediscovery of the sacred choral repertoire of the XVIII century which will be published by Sony-Deutsche Harmonia Mundi and is on the frontline of the Circuito Lombardo di Musica Antica. The ensemble has started three year projects with the Académie Baroque d’Ambronay and the European Union Baroque Orchestra, two among the most important European entities in Ancient Music.
