Public talk with Prof. Stefano Guandalini, presided by H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of the Republic of Malta
Recent studies in the US, England and Finland, indicate that the incidence of coeliac disease to be around 1 per 100 people. Indeed, this condition is considered common in Europe, South America, Canada, and Australia.
Understanding the importance of raising awareness of coeliac disease in Malta, a local Maltese PR firm, NarrativeStructures joined forces with The President of Malta’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society, and the Italian Cultural Institute, to bring over to Malta, Professor Stefano Guandalini who will speak in depth on this condition to medical professionals and the general public. This initiative is being made possible thanks to: Golden Harvest, Pro Health and MSV Life as well as the support of a number of non governmental organisations including: The Maltese Paediatric Association and the Malta College of Family Doctors.
Born and educated in Italy, but practising in the USA, Professor Guandalini, is a Professor of Paediatrics Section Chief, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and is the World leading expert in coeliac disease. He is the founder and Medical Director of the University of Chicago Coeliac Disease Center, and has been formally recognised as one of America’s top doctors and Italy’s top scientists.
Professor Guandalini will be giving two talks: the first which is being held on Thursday 23rd April, 8pm at the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta and open to doctors only is entitled ‘Advances in Coelaic Disease & Gluten Related Disorders’ and the second talk held on Saturday 25th April at 9.30am open to the general public entitled: ‘Coeliac Disease and Gluten Intolerance – The Facts’ will be held at The Palace, St George’s Square, Valletta.
