ROSSINI’s OPERA IN CHAMBER MUSIC. Concerto del “Musica Nova Duo”

Massimo de Bonfils (violino) e Luca Minervino (chitarra classica)

Music by Gioacchino Rossini

In the 19th Century, Italy was fascinated by Opera, however the best musicians started to travel around the world. Guitarists of the likes of Carulli, Gragnani, Molino and violinists among whom Viotti, were some of the artists going abroad.  Many of the artists were hosted by Rossini in France. The great Gioacchino, retired in Paris, cooked and invited to dinner Italian musicians who found themselves in France to perform. The musicians repaid the courtesy by composing transcripts and fantasies, inspired by the most famous ouvertures of Italian opera.

Massimo de Bonfils is professor at Conservatorium Santa Cecilia in Rome. He graduated in violin and viola and at twenty years of age became a professor at the Conservatorium. At 31 years of age, Bonfils became the youngest Conservatorium Director in Italy. He performs with the Orchestra Nazionale dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia and with the orchestra of Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, with Orchestra Sinfonica Franz Joseph Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, and with Rome Festival Orchestra of New York. He performs as a solo. He also plays together with Orchestras of countries hailing from three continents and has been invited to be part of a jury at various international awards. He performed in concerts and recordings for television and radio in more than 60 countries.
Luca Minervino graduated in classical guitar at the Conservatorium Niccolo’ Piccinni in Bari, under the tuition of Maestro Sante Tursi. He attended many masterclasses by F. Cucchi, E. Isaac, M. Mela, L. Micheli and J. Lorenzo. He won awards in many national and international competitions, and he performed in the First International World Bach Festival di Firenze, in the Music Festival of Nations di Roma. He performed in New York and in St. Petersburg.

The concert is organized by the Italian Cultural Institute, under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy and with the collaboration of the Conservatorium Santa Cecilia of Rome, within the XIX Bir Miftuh International Music Festival.
