“Italia e Malta nelle cartoline illustrate”

Within The Magic Box

This month we have the pleasure to have with us Dr Anthony Abela Medici, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a member of the Malta Philatelic Society. He occupied the post of lecturer in Organic Chemistry at the University of Malta until 1980 and in 1981 was appointed director of the Malta Police Forensic Science Laboratory until he retired in 2010. As the foremost forensic scientist in Malta he has investigated most major criminal cases in Malta during this period, including the Egyptair Hijack in 1985, and the attempted murder of the Prime Minister’s secretary in 1992.  He was also honoured by the Church Authorities in Malta in being appointed to carry out the exhumations of the holy remains of saintly people, including that of Saint George Preca, the first Maltese proclaimed Saint.  His training in document investigations since 1973 and in Forensic Science since 1978 has helped him develop his passion for researching the postal history of Malta, an area he has published on extensively in the United Kingdom and Malta.  This led him to collect Malta postcards. As a matter of fact, he has one of the largest collections in the field.  He has completed the full history of the Malta Post and has published his second volume of “The definitive guide to Maltese postcards”. The third volume will be published soon.

From this writing Dr. Abela Medici will present some of these postcards and show very interesting connections between Italy and Malta.

Come and join us to learn more about this beautiful collection of postcards. After the presentation we’ll have a glass of wine together. Dr Abela Medici will be happy to answer all your questions.
