“Da Valletta 2018 a Matera 2019, due Capitali della Cultura Europea a confronto”

Malta’s Capital Valletta and the city and province of Matera in the region of Basilicata in Southern Italy will be bestowed with a common prestigious recognition in the coming years. This will be the European Capital of Culture title that Valletta will be cherishing in 2018 with Matera assuming it a year later in 2019.

To strengthen the friendship between the two cities, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Maltese-Italian Chamber of Commerce joined forces to organize an event to promote the region of Basilicata in connection to the Maltese archipelago and its capital. The event is going to be on February 19, from 11:30 onwards, at the Italian Cultural Institute.

The event will complement the presence of the delegation of Regione Basilicata in Malta, which will participate in “Vivanda – Taste the Med”. This Maltese fair, now at its third edition, is an international biennial event which focuses on the Mediterranean enogastronomic traditions, innovation and culture. Six chefs from the region will be competing in the various gastronomic competitions as part of the Vivanda Culinary Fair while the Basilicata pavilion will show products from twenty-four companies.

The event at the Italian Cultural Institute is followed by a reception.  Gastronomic specialities prepared by the chefs will be served for this special occasion.
