Leonardo Da Vinci

Series of talks on Italian art by Father Marius Zerafa

Leonardo Da Vinci, born in Florence on 14 April 1452, was a painter, an architect and a scientist who symbolised the renaissance genius and revolutionized both Figurative Art and the science. Since the beginning, Leonardo’s art can be seen as a conscious revision of fifteenth century art and at the same time an opposition against it. At first glance it looks like his art aspires to give life to the images, but on more cautious analysis it  seems like his art tries to reproduce the cosmic spirit of universe, finding the rules that dominate the multiform nature, in an never-ending tension aimed at finding out what is the real power of art. Leonardo tries to “understand every form in respect of its aspect and its internal cause”. This results in an extraordinary graphic novelty of his scientific research, in the interest for the natural phenomenon and for human feelings.

Father Marius Zerafa, famous art scholar, will talk about the life, the work and the technique of this Italian genius.
