La scatola magica: “Le mura di Valletta”

“The Magic Box”

Dott. Anna Porcheddu presents: “Le mura di Valletta”  with Arch. Daphne Fenech

November Magic Box event is dedicated to Valletta and its walls. This year marks the 450th anniversary of Valletta, founded in 1566 by Grand Master Jean Parisot de la Valette, with Pope Pius V’s financial support. It certainly was a key event in the history of the Maltese islands. The scale of the proposed project was unprecedented and the building took place in a period in which great achievements in urban planning and architecture flourished on the continent. The Italian architect Francesco Laparelli (1521-1570) was in charge of building the new city, conceived as a fortress.

Architect Daphne Fenech will talk about this topic, including the impact that this project had on the local architectural environment. She graduated in 2006 at the University of Malta and continued her studies till November 2014, when she was awarded a master’s degree in Conservation Technology of Masonry Buildings. She was also a member of the Valletta Rehabilitation Projects Committee from 2011 to 2013. In 2014 she was chosen for an international course on Technology of Wood Conservation, held in Oslo. In 2015 she started CREAID (conservation, architecture and design) with wood conservator/restorer Josef Aquilina, one of our previous guests at the Magic Box. Daphne will be happy to answer all your questions over a glass of wine and some treats.

Everyone is welcome and entrance is free!
