Sacred Arias
Saturday NOV. 19 at 8pm
Church of the Jesuits, Valletta
Kiev Baroque Consort (Ukraine) – Female Choir
Nancy Milesis Romano (Italy) – Conductor
Joseph Lia (Malta) – Baritone
Ismaïl Mourtada (Malta) – Oboe
The opening concert of the Malta Organ Festival is co-sponsored by the Italian Embassy through the Italian Cultural Institute of Valletta.
The Kiev Baroque Consort, a musical group made up of Ukrainian musicians, will be performing in Malta. Mrs. Nancy Milesis Romano, spouse of the Italian Ambassador to Malta, has been leading this group for 10 years.
The group of Ukrainian musicians consists only of women since the male members cannot leave the country due to the ongoing conflict. Therefore, the instrumentalists accompanying the Ukrainian musicians will be Maltese.
The musical event is a fine example of Ukrainian-Maltese interaction during these difficult times. In this time of uncertainty and suffering for the Ukrainian population, it is important for them to continue with their life, work and music. Although the journey is quite long, it will be nonetheless a special experience for them.
The event aims to raise further awareness about the current situation in Ukraine within the diplomatic community, the local authorities and the Maltese society.
