Italian communities in Latin America (1): Argentina A live streaming event by

Ready for a trip to Latin America? We are starting in Argentina to find out about their Italian communities. Then in March we will travel to Brazil!

This month, our guides to Argentina are Professor Maria Dalleves and Mrs Assunta d’Onofrio.

Maria is from Colón, in the province of Entre Rios. She is the director of Italian language and culture courses at Dante Alighieri in her city, and National Secretary of A.I.M. (Association for Italy in the World) Argentina and coordinator of A.I.M. in Latin America. Maria is also involved in the management of "Casa dell'Italia Unita", an association whose aim is to represent Italian regions and their culture.

Assunta was born in Italy in Tremensuoli, near the municipality of Minturno in the province of Latina. She and her family emigrated to Argentina when she was only 3 years old. For nearly 30 years she has been living in Mar del Plata, a city with a strong Italian presence, about 400 km from Buenos Aires. She is the head of the association “Famiglia Laziali Uniti di Mar del Plata y Zona” for families now resident in Mar del Plata and surrounding area, but originally from Lazio in Italy.
