LA SCATOLA MAGICA: “I GIOIELLI. TRA STORIA, SIMBOLOGIA E ORNAMENTO”

Magic Box starts again, after the summer break, with another interesting topic, jewellery (“I Gioielli” Tra Storia, Simbologia e Ornamento).

With a degree in Architecture and a strong passion for creation, Rosa Scidà will talk about jewellery and its history.

Since she was a child, Rosa loved drawing and making artefacts, sometimes using recycled materials such as buttons, cotton, wool etc. In July 2018 she took part in Fashion Show di White Shop in Valletta, as a model and fashion-designer, with her collection of jewels for women.

Why is it that most of us are fascinated by jewellery? Humans have always loved decorating themselves. There are many kinds of jewels and through the ages and in different cultures, jewellery has had many meanings. Egyptians thought it could ward off evil. They even used live insects for their jewellery. The Etruscan people lived in central Italy between 800 and 400 BC and produced beautiful jewellery. Later on, in the 1200s, Venetian glass masters on the island of Murano developed revolutionary techniques to make glass beads: their glass necklaces are still made and are highly appreciated even today.

Rosa will take us for a historical-artistic tour to understand the evolution of jewellery.

This presentation will be streamed online (in Italian). For further information please contact segreteria.iiclavalletta@esteri.it by 13th September in order to take part in the event.
