ARTE | FRA' INNOCENZO DA PETRALIA SOTTANA E I SUOI CROCIFISSI MALTESI

EVENT POSTPONED. DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED.

“La Scatola Magica” with Dott. Anna Porcheddu

In celebration of its 7th birthday presents  “Fra’ Innocenzo da Petralia Sottana e i suoi crocifissi maltesi”  with Christian Attard.

This month La Scatola Magica will help us discover a 17th-century sculptor from Sicily; Fra’ Innocenzo da Petralia Sottana. He is the creator of three beautiful crucifixes, two of which can be admired right here in Malta. His most famous crucifix is in the Chruch of the Franciscan Minors, better known as Ta’ Giezu, in Valletta. In Maltese it is called “Il-Kurċifiss Mirakuluż”. Legend goes that waking up in the morning, the artist realized that the statue’s head had already been completed.

Our guest, Christian Attard, a researcher and exhibition curator, will talk about him and his works and will also discuss some of the details of the restoration and conservation programme that was recently carried out on the Valletta Ta’ Ġieżu crucifix.

Christian will answer all our questions before joining us over a glass of wine and some special birthday treats.

Everybody is welcome. Entrance is free
