Malta Light 2 – Accadimenti | Solo Exhibition by Walter Coccetta
Istituto Italiano di Cultura | La Valletta | May 4 – June 6, 2019
Opening – in the presence of the artist – on May 4
On display about 30 works, including large ones, representative of the emotional passages that have characterized the artistic career of M° Coccetta over the past 20 years.
The exhibition is an ideal continuation of Malta light 1 of 2011, presented in Valletta and at the 54th Venice Biennale directed by prof. Vittorio Sgarbi.
Coccetta has been exhibiting for over 50 years, with over 100 exhibitions held around the world, including the US, China and many other European countries, including Malta. Back in 1998, Coccetta held his first exhibition in Malta at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.
Professor Giorgio di Genova, art critic and historian, wrote about him:
“ALL OF WALTER COCCETTA’S PAINTINGS ARE BORN FROM DEEP EVOCATIVE BASIS. HE USES HIS PAINTING AND CHROMATIC TECHNIQUE IN A SYMPTOMATIC WAY. THAT IS TO SAY, NOT ILLUSTRATIVE, SO AS TO NOT FORCE THE EVOCATIVE AURA OF A REPRESENTATION WHICH IS NOT BASED ON WHAT THE EYE SEES BUT WHAT ONE SEES EMOTIONALLY IN A NARROW NATURALISTIC REPRESENTATION.
FROM HERE DERIVES EVERY BRUSH STROKE, EVERY PICTURESQUE SIGN, EVERY LUMP OF MATERIAL, EVERY SCAN OF SPACE IS GIVEN SYMBOLIC MEANING WHICH ARE THE BRUSH STROKES, THE SIGN, SPACE, COLOUR ORGANISED ON THE SURFACE SO AS TO EVOKE MORE ABOUT WHAT THE PUBLIC FEELS THAN WHAT THEY SEE.” (http://waltercoccetta.com/)
