LA SCATOLA MAGICA | L'ARTE CAMPANARIA: COLLEGAMENTI TRA MALTA E ITALIA

The Italian Cultural Institute, Valletta presents “La Scatola Magica” with Dott. Anna Porcheddu.

Kenneth Cauchi - “L’arte campanaria: collegamenti tra Malta e Italia”

Ready for a new topic at Scatola Magica? This time we’ll be talking about bells and bell ringing. Bells are always present in the life of everyone. They mark the important moments for each of us, from the bells used by churches to society’s civic bells, and the high cultural, artistic and musical profile they represent. Bells are an integral part of our culture. And this certainly applies to our two countries, Malta and Italy, which have shared campanological links since medieval times.

Our guest, Kenneth Cauchi, has been interested in bells since he was 7. He was so full of enthusiasm that it became the passion of his life. He became the official bell-master of St. John’s Co-Cathedral of Valletta in 1990 and kept the job till 1998. Later on he specialised in the restoration of cracked historic bells, the topic of his thesis. Kenneth has installed over 60 new bells in Malta and Gozo over the past 25 years, one of which is Malta’s largest bell hanging at the World War II Siege Memorial in Valletta’s Grand Harbour.

Kenneth will answer all our questions and then join us over a glass of wine and some treats, courtesy of Enocult and Oblico Caffe'.

Everybody is welcome and entrance is free.
